In this modern day and age, there are 2 worlds in which we are a part of. The real world and the virtual world. It is not surprising that the only way many businesses have been able to survive is to adapt and embrace both worlds. This is true in all forms of commerce. From selling services, to video games, to music, all markets are adapting and ever evolving.
In the spirit of this evolution, the hard rock/ metal band, “Stabbingback” has made a drastic change in there strategy to release new music and connect with there fans.
“Stabbingback” is a band originally from Seattle. They marked their place in Seattle history by being the first band ever to release 2 debut albums simultaneously in 2 different genre’s, metal and acoustic rock. “Stabbingback” blended a classic metal style with melodically driven vocals and a powerful modern edge to form a unique sound which is strangely familiar. The acoustic music is, by it’s very nature, is less abrasive than the metal. Although not as in-your-face, the acoustic material is every bit as emotional and intense. All the songs are originally written for this style, and are not “unplugged” versions of the metal music.
In 2008, the band was finally able to release both albums with an enthusiastic response from their fans. They were able to support the albums by performing locally in the Seattle area as well as a couple of small tours out of state. This was unfortunately followed by a series of issues which ultimately caused a complete halt on all plans.
Fast forward to 2012… Welcome back to the war!
The dust has finally settled, the line up changes have been exhausted and new plans are now in place. Sothey start again. Wiser for the troubles, strengthened by fans, and prepared for chaos.
Although tough, the lessons learned during this period were invaluable. Lessons like, unless your willing to tour on a constant basis outside of your comfort zone, you cannot follow the standard practice of release an album and tour to promote. You must think outside the box if band members have families and security is of the utmost importance. “Stabbingback” is now doing just that with a whole new strategy.
1. The band is now a “Web only” band. This is a risky move considering it means all live shows come to a stop. The trade off however, is that new material is released constantly and on schedule. On the 1st of every month to be exact. This also enables the band members to live anywhere in the US but still be able to work together.
2. The band has released the 1st ever “WAV” Music Store. Since the primary interaction between the band and its fans is the music, they wanted the music to be as “clean” and high quality as possible.
3. To keep things interesting, the band has chosen to record 5 album’s at once. Each album with a different theme, but all album’s together form one story. A very involved endeavor for any band.
4. Every so often, the band has a guest artist’s join in songs. Guitarist’s, vocalist’s, bassist’s, pianist’s, you name it. Having other artist’s join and be a part of the project is just another way the band is trying to reach out as well as bring artists together.
The band keeps in constant contact using social media. Twitter,Facebook, Reverbnation, there website, ect. This band may not be known by many, but with so much to offer, why not give them a listen.
